A small kit covers most home gardening: a hand trowel for planting, a hand fork for weeding and loosening, secateurs or snips for harvesting and pruning, a watering can with a fine rose, and a pair of gloves. For beds, add a digging fork and a rake. Buy these well made once rather than replacing cheap versions - a solid trowel lasts decades.
