Raised Bed Basics
A raised bed is a frame filled with imported soil, typically four feet wide so you can reach the middle from either side, and at least eight to twelve inches deep. Fill it with a mix of quality topsoil and compost. Raised beds warm earlier in spring, drain better than heavy ground, and keep paths and growing area separate so the soil never gets compacted underfoot.
