Reading Labels
Beyond the NPK numbers, a label tells you whether the product is fast- or slow-release, whether it contains micronutrients like iron and magnesium, and the recommended application rate. Always follow the rate: more is not better, and excess fertilizer burns roots and runs off into waterways. Note whether it is formulated for foliage, flowering, or a specific crop, and whether it needs to be watered in after application.
