Understanding Sun Exposure
Full sun means six or more hours of direct sunlight a day, partial sun or partial shade means roughly three to six, and full shade means less than three. Fruiting crops like tomatoes and peppers need full sun to produce well. Leafy greens and many herbs tolerate partial sun and can even prefer it in hot climates. Watch an area across a full day before planting - tree cover and buildings move the shade line more than you expect.
